At the beginning of World War 2, Germany at the time had the Luger P08 pistol, which was not only becoming more expensive to manufacture, but also found itself functioning poorly when exposed to the elements. As a result, submissions for a new pistol were requested. It would be Walther that answered the prayers of the German army, with their new Walther P38 pistol, which would see extensive use throughout the war, up until the reich's inevitable defeat by 1945. The P38 would not be forgotten, as several other nations began using the gun up til the present day.
