The Odd Vicar《奇妙な牧師, Kimyōna Bokushi, OVA: The Priest of the Cheddar Village》 is a minor antagonist in the Hellsing series created by Kohta Hirano. He is voiced by Kazuhiro Nakata in Japanese and JB Blanc in the English dub.

The perpetrator behind the Cheddar Village incident, the Vicar is an odd and ruthless individual with vampiric abilities. Depraved and power-hungry, he is a psychopathic clergyman seeking to do whatever he pleases. After almost taking the life of a young policewoman, he is faced with Alucard, "Trashman" of the Hellsing Organisation

Appearance

The Vicar was an older-looking man with black hair, very sharp and prominent features, and hellish red eyes. He had pale skin, sharp fangs, and dressed in darker, monochromatic priest clothing. At times when he went out in the daylight, he wore clergy robes with a hood that "deeply concealed" his eyes.

Personality

The Vicar seemed as sadistic and power-hungry as most of his kind. He planned on raping Seras, thereby disallowing her to become a vampire like himself, because all he wanted was "devoted slaves," not even allowing her to become a vampire with free will. He was depraved, arrogant, dismissive, and cowardly.

History

The Vicar was a lone clergyman who moved to the village of Cheddar on June 14th, 1999. Living in the villages church, he rarely ventured outside, only going out during overcast days or at night and always wearing a hooded robe. A week later, a teenage boy went missing, the Vicar's first victim, with the town going into disarray following the disappearance of ten more people over the next ten days. An escapee an attack by the priest ran to the police, telling them about the encounter and how the Vicars mouth was dripping with blood. The police and several village residents would storm the church and confront the Vicar in the late evening, where he would attack and kill them.

Over the next two days, the situation in the village of Cheddar would deteriorate rapidly, with the Vicar going on a rampage, killing and turning most of the residents into ghouls. Armed police would quickly arrive and despite not fully comprehending what was occurring, would establish roadblocks around the village to contain the situation. Any units sent in would not return, being killed and added to the Vicar's growing ghoul army.

Two days after the attacks start, the Hellsing Organisation would take command of the operation, with the agency's director Sir Integra Hellsing arriving on scene. Integra would also send in Alucard, an anti-vampire hitman to eliminate the Vicar. Shortly before Integra's arrival, an armed squad would be sent into the village, being ambushed by the Vicar in the church. The sole survivor of the ambush, a policewoman named Seras Victoria, would initially escape but quickly be cornered by the vampire and his ghouls. The Vicar would lament about how her comrades belonged to him and how he would rape her to ensure she would not become a free vampire. Moments later, Alucard would arrive, with the Vicar laughing at his threats before commanding his ghouls to fire upon Alucard. After Alucard collapsed, riddled with bullets, the Vicar stood over his body, laughing manically.

However, Alucard would quickly reveal his own vampiric nature, regenerating before firing upon the ghouls surrounding him. The Vicar, shocked, asked why a vampire was working with humans. As Alucard prepared to shoot him, the Vicar would jump behind Seras and take her as a hostage, asking Alucard to save the lone survivor by letting him escape. Alucard, ignoring him, would ask if Seras was a virgin, with the Vicar quickly realising what he was attempting to do. Upon Seras confirming she was a virgin, Alucard would shoot through her chest, hitting the Vicar in the heart. As the Vicar and Seras fell, Alucard ran up and grabbed his heart, crushing it and killing him. As the Vicar disintegrated, Alucard would turn to the dying Seras and after asking if she wanted to live, would bite her neck and turn her into a vampire.

Following the Vicar's death, the ghouls within the village would die rapidly, losing their master. The cheddar incident would be covered up by Hellsing and other authorities.

Powers and Abilities

Real vampire
It is not known how the Vicar became a vampire, though his classification as a true vampire means that he should be above artificial vampires in terms of power.
The Vicar easily holding Seras.	Superhuman strength: The Vicar was shown to be able to easily restrain and overpower Seras to the point of total immobilisation. Though off-screen, he was also able to easily kill and the other members of the police that had come with Seras, turning them into ghouls.
The Vicar being shown to be able to survive gunshots to the chest.	Superhuman durability and endurance: The vicar was shown to be able to survive gunshots to the chest without flinching.
Superhuman speed and reflexes: The Vicar was shown to be fast enough to appear as though he was teleporting in front of Seras while approaching her.
The Vicar and his army of ghouls over Alucards 'dead' body.	As a true vampire, the Vicar had the ability to create other true vampires from a virgin of the opposite sex, though he stated that he had no intention of letting another vampire with free will run around, only wanting obedient slaves in ghouls.
Regeneration: The Vicar was able to regenerate to a certain extent, as he was able to regenerate the bullet wounds he sustained from the police but was unable to regenerate from Alucards attacks.
Biological Immortality
As a vampire, the Vicar was unable to die of causes like age or disease, though he could be killed, showing his immortality was purely biological.
