–Luke Valentine, to David. Hellsing Episode 5: Brotherhood.

Luke Valentineルーク・ヴァレンタイン Rūku Varentain, with his brother Jan, was a vampire and minor antagonist in the middle of the Hellsing series.

Both Luke and Jan appear to run a club to hire vampires and serve under the orders of Incognito, and Incognito's Master. Jan and Luke differ in powers, while Jan specializes more in strength; Luke, on the other hand, is possibly the fastest vampire in Gonzo's Hellsing universe. He and his brother were responsible for killing up to 135 Hellsing Soldiers and injuring 24, while the remainder of the soldiers remained unscathed due to operating outside of the Manor.

He was voiced by Takehito Koyasu in the original Japanese sub, and later, was voiced by Patrick Seitz in the English dub of Hellsing.

Appearance[]

Physical[]

In Hellsing, Luke had very pale skin, long, blonde hair reaching his waist and tied with a lime ribbon at the end, and light yellow eyes, however, in some scenes - Luke is depicted with pitch-black eyes. He's tall, almost as tall as Alucard, and has a seemingly normal build.

Clothing[]

He wears silver pince-nez glasses and the same style of military jacket as his brother Jan, although Luke's was white with lime lining and a circle-shaped zipper. He also wears white suit pants, white gloves, and sports black shoes. Also, like Alucard, his clothing appears to regenerate; as shown when Alucard shot him in the torso.

Personality[]

Tyour

Luke's psychopathic side, shown when he smiles and stares at the Hellsing guard he had killed very easily.

While his younger brother, Jan, was a cynical, vulgar, and obnoxious person; Luke was everything that Jan wasn't; a calm, cool, and patient man whose focus was on their family's business. However, his personality was more of an "act", as his true colors are shown when Alucard defeated him with no difficulty whatsoever. Behind this "cool" personality, however, Luke was a psychopath; having no remorse for the victims he killed, much like Jan, and even in some cases - he smiles widely while doing so.

He's quite full of himself either, thinking that he could go up against a true vampire while being an artificial FREAK - even while doing so, he stated that he had more powers than even that of Alucard's, which was quite laughable; he made this assumption right after he only shot Alucard twice in the head, in which, after seeing Alucard get up and smiling; Luke stares in disbelief, thinking that he had killed Alucard right away. He believes that the concept of "Immortality" does not exist, and was willing to have a chance to fight Alucard to prove that he's right, however, it's safe to say that he wasn't ready at all - even if he did say that he had been waiting for this "for a long time." His cockiness and egotistic side are what led Luke to eventually meet his end.

The two brothers are a contrast to each other, and while some might think Jan was the more dangerous one - that is far from the case, as Luke was the one pulling the strings. He planned to silently kill the security officers guarding the front gate before driving a bus full of ghouls right into the gate to attack Hellsing by surprise. Even though the Valentine brothers lost, the Hellsing organisation was severely damaged because of them, causing over 100 trained soldiers to perish in the battle, and almost killed Peter Fargason, the Hellsing organisation's commander.

Despite his cool and calm demeanor, it is shown that Luke can be broken and go crazy. When he finally sees Alucard's true power, Luke was freaked out and lost his composure, in which, after a two-headed Baskerville chases him at full speed - Luke dodges it, and tried to run away; without even using his speed ability, which could mean that there is some kind of trigger to activate the ability. Eventually, Luke lost it and gave up, calling Alucard a "monster", which disappointed the latter - as he had high expectations for Luke.

Legacy[]

Days later, after the Valentine Brother's attack on the Manor, the Hellsing Organisation had a huge impact on their soldiers, buildings, etc; which also forced the Hellsing Organisation to hire Atheists; something Walter commented on. The Hellsing's Information Retrieval is also committed to the Hellsing Organisation's investigation of the Brothers' backgrounds and their associates, to which MI-5 was also asked to assist them through the Round Table Conference.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Jan Valentine[]

The two are brothers, however, they're the complete opposite of each other. Despite these differences, the two get along really well and make an impressive duo together. The younger brother, Jan, seems to be quite comfortable around Luke, however, given their many interactions throughout episodes 5 and 6, Luke was obviously annoyed; telling him to shut up and take care of his jobs quietly, so that they can look "cool".

Allies[]

Incognito[]

Though the two never interacted in the Anime, both Jan and Luke attacked the Manor due to his request.

Incognito's Master[]

In the anime, Jan and Luke ran a club that was used for recruiting and training new vampires. Though they had no direct contact with Incognito's Master, they clearly took their orders from him/her.

Enemies[]

Alucard[]

Thinking that he had a slight chance of going up against him, Luke was very confident that he could defeat Alucard himself. Believing that no such thing as "immortality" or a "true immortal" really exists, Luke wanted to kill the vampire Alucard to end the debate about whether immortality really exists or not. Luke was full of himself during the battle, telling Alucard that he isn't anything like the vampires Alucard fought before and even thought that he had died after shooting him twice in the head. However, before this battle, Luke was somewhat fascinated about the existence of Alucard himself, stating that he has been waiting to prove to "the famous" Alucard just how good he really is; which could mean that Luke was quite a fan of Alucard. Luke had also said that he would be the one that would exceed him.

Alucard himself had complimented Luke before the battle, telling Seras Victoria, his fledgling, that the one he'll be fighting isn't like the vampire trash upstairs. He had also said that Luke's ability was that of a "category of vampire (Alucard's own categories ranging from the pathetic ones to the worthy ones to be called his opponent.)", however, being given this compliment is dangerous for the enemy that Alucard's fighting, as he released level one and taught Luke how a real vampire fights.

When Alucard began to show Luke his nature as a true vampire, Luke lost control of himself and immediately freaked out, screaming when a two-headed Baskerville, which resembled a Cerberus, began running towards Luke and leaping - as if the dog was trying to maul Luke alive. Eventually, when cornered, Luke couldn't do anything as his legs had been shot-off by Alucard, and therefore, he couldn't run away even if he tried to. He called Alucard a monster, which disappointed the latter - and caused Alucard to state that Luke was nothing but dog food. Even so, in his final moments, Luke still tried to fight by shooting him with his pistol, which obviously does nothing.

Abilities[]

Overview[]

Luke is an artificial vampire, though he was implanted with multiple FREAK chips on his body; which made his abilities more than that of an average FREAK that was implanted with only one FREAK chip, like Enrico Stivaletti. Some vampires that were implanted with multiple FREAK chips remained the when it came to their abilities, however, they would have one or two special abilities; Jan with the over-the-top strength, Paul Wilson with the ability to transform himself into a hyena-like or bat-like creature, and finally, Luke with his exceptional speed that makes him one of the more dangerous artificial vampires. His intelligence and speed were what made him a dangerous opponent, and the Valentine brothers' legacy will be remembered by the Hellsing family because of the damage they had done to the organisation itself.

Abilities[]

  • Do you think they'd play jailbreak together

    Luke's impressive speed.

Enhanced Superhuman Speed/Reflexes: To further show the contrast between the two brothers, Jan's abilities as an artificial vampire who was implanted with multiple FREAK chips was his supernatural strength that was above that of the strongest humans. However, Luke's main and prominent ability was that he was so fast that even Alucard wasn't able to land a single shot with the Casull on him, which led to the Casull running out of ammo. His speed was impressive enough that a Hellsing guard was sliced and almost immediately dies. His terrifying speed also caused Alucard to resort to bluff and scare tactics, which worked. His speed is also above that of Alucard's, as he was fast enough to land a shot on Alucard's head again with his M1 Garand.
  • Enhanced Durability: He apparently took a point-blank shot to the chest from the Casull without visible damage.
  • Regeneration: Luke was capable of regenerating wounds such as being stabbed in the chest by spears and being shot in the torso by the Casull. His regeneration isn't unlimited, however. When Alucard shot off his legs, he couldn't heal his wounds and fell short in their battle.
  • Sharpshooting Skills: Luke is skilled in sharpshooting, going toe-to-toe with Alucard and shooting Alucard's head twice during their battle.

Weapons[]

Shortened M1 Garand[]

For more information, see Luke Valentine's Modified M1 Garand

Luke Valentine's weapon of choice is a pair of extremely short M1 Garands. The stock is cut down and the barrel and gas piston are almost halved in length, making them resemble a "Mare's Leg" short pistol/carbine. Such a conversion in real life would essentially require a complete rebuild of the working parts of the rifle, since the Garand's operating piston is a rod that runs almost the entire length of the barrel, and a Garand gas piston shortened this much while firing the same round would probably explode. Luke also carries two of these hidden in his jacket and uses them to put a pair of bullets in Alucard's head.

Walther PPK/S[]

For more information, see Walther PPK/S

Luke was seen using this as a last resort in Hellsing. It was shown to be underneath his sleeve and slid to his hand. The most notable way to tell a PPK from a PPK/S is its finish (a PPK/S is far more common as a stainless gun than a PPK) and longer frame spur. Also, Walther did manage to sell more pistols that would otherwise be banned under the harsh rules of GCA-68 by building them domestically (Walther U.S.A.).

M202 FLASH[]

For more informatin, see M202 FLASH

The M202 FLASH (Flame Assault Shoulder) is a US-made 66mm infantry multiple rocket launcher that entered service in the late 1960s. Luke Valentine and Jan Valentine ambush the Hellsing Manor, and to prevent them from escaping, Luke used the M202 FLASH to blow up The Round Table's cars, and later, the Helicopter, in which the Round table members were going to use to flee the area.

Private Club[]

Luke club

Luke, in his club.

Luke was also shown to own a club with his brother, Jan Valentine. The club was shown to hire vampires, and they need to bring one of the three or more cards that have the Valentine Brothers' symbol on it; If you give Luke the red one, you will die. For example; David and Brits, who were apparently MI-5 Spies investigating the FREAK Chips. Also, the vampire prostitute is probably one of the Club's members, as she wore a necklace that looked similar to the Valentine Brothers' eye symbol.

Luke and Jan probably made their Army of Ghouls from this club, Jan was possibly the one that created the female vampires that appear in Episode 5. After the Valentine Brothers' deaths, Harry Anders and another MI-5 Agent, possibly his partner, worked with the Hellsing Organisation to find out about the brothers' backgrounds and affiliations.

Manga-To-Anime Differences[]

Though they're not that different, unlike Alucard, Integra, and Seras, both versions still have some differences; Luke owns a Club that hires vampires and this version of Luke seems to be calmer and doesn't brag about his powers as much to Alucard.
