Harkonnen Harkonnen II

The Hellsing 30mm Anti-Midian Cannon "Harkonnen"30mm対化物用「カノン」「ハルコンネン」, Sanjūmiri Taibakemono-yō Kanon Harukon'nen, shortened to: "The Harkonnen"》 is a powerful anti-tank cannon and is the preferred weapon of Seras Victoria.

The cannon was manufactured by Walter C. Dornez to act as an anti-Midian weapon; it is supplied for Seras and is one of the few specific unhumans that can wield the weapon due to the sheer size of it, along with her sharp precision and superhuman strength as a vampire. The Harkonnen uses two types of ammo, making the weapon highly effective both as an anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapon.

Profile[]

Manufactured at the same time as the Jackal, it was made to serve as part of the Hellsing Agency's battle against the undead; the 30mm Harkonnen cannon was issued to Seras Victoria. Having a total length of 1900mm and weighing in at 83kg (therefore it is impossible for a human to utilize it), the single-shot breechloader cannon uses various types of shells: depleted uranium shells and armor-piercing incendiary rounds. Operating using a breech-action system, the barrel is connected to the lower receiver by a hinge at the back of the barrel; to reload, the barrel drops down at the forward end and moves up at the rear end, exposing the breech end of the barrel where spent cases are removed and fresh shells are inserted. Carrying this weapon, the vampirically enhanced Seras serves perfectly as long-range fire support. Her immense strength also allows her to use the weapon while moving, including two sets of ammo packs that contain the two types of ammunition that the Harkonnen supports.

Bullets and Rounds[]

The Harkonnen uses two types of ammunition: depleted uranium shells and armor-piercing incendiary rounds. For the former, it is a tip made primarily from an alloy called DU (depleted uranium), which contains a lower percentage of fissile 235U than natural U. DU spontaneously ignites and begins to burn when pressure is applied, so high penetrating power and incineration effects can be expected when the bullet hits. The latter incendiary rounds are also equipped with armor-piercing tips and have excellent penetrating power, making them extremely effective as anti-tank and anti-aircraft artillery shells, therefore eliminating all targets both on land and in the air. A single shot from the DU shell penetrated through multiple heavily armored ghouls employed by the Valentine Brothers, on top of the ghouls having been equipped with hardened shields. When commanded by Walter to switch to the second incendiary rounds, Walter mentions its high-explosive nature combined with a VT fuse; upon firing, it decimated all the ghouls and created a cloud of smoke.

Usage[]

Seras primarily uses this weapon after Walter issued her the weapon moments before the Valentine Brothers invasion, later partaking in eliminating Jan Valentine with Walter while Alucard deals with Luke Valentine. In Rio, Seras assists Alucard in taking down Tubalcain Alhambra by creating a cloud of smoke that surrounds the area caused by a Harkonnen shell being parried. In preparation for the London invasion, a Harkonnen II was manufactured to protect the Hellsing Headquarters; in favor of the two automatic 30mm cannons provided by the Harkonnen II, the cannon was dropped for the remaining battle with Zorin Blitz. In 2029, the Harkonnen cannon is seen once again when Seras barges into Sir Integra's room after sensing a disturbance.

Name[]

Seras' signature weapons are named after the main antagonist of Frank Herbert's novel Dune, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. This is further reinforced by the appearance of the weapon's "spirit" during dream sequences in the manga (and thus OVA) and episode previews in the anime, which bears a strong resemblance to Baron Harkonnen from David Lynch's film adaptation of the book.
